Pesinet has been operating since January 2010 on a pilot zone in the district of Bamako Coura, in the capital city of Mali. Following a 2-year pilot phase, the service has been implemented on two new zones in Bamako in partnership with two new partnering health centres in the districts of Dravela and Ouolofobougou. We are currently expanding our activities in a new district of Bamako, the district of N’Tominkorobougou.
Here are some key activity results since the launch :
• 1 500 children have subscribed to the service
• 64 213 home based visits have been carried out by our health monitoring agents
• 2 979 € of medication have been paid by the insurance scheme for subscribers
An evaluation survey carried out by a Phd student under the supervision of the National Agency for e-health and Medical Informatics in Mali shows that:
- 96% of the families are satisfied with the service
- 99% want to recommend the service to their relatives or friends
- 97% find it “very cheap”
- 78% of the mothers subscribing have low education levels (none, or primary school)
- 90% have either unstable or rather unstable revenues
- 95% think the main advantage of the service is “Good health follow-up and affordable cost”
A new independant evaluation survey carried out on the pilot site in 2010-2011 (Bamako Coura) shows the service’s impact on use of healthcare centers and disease detection:
- Children subscrining to the Pesinet service resort to care 3 times more on average than the children in the same zone
- 75% of under-5 examiniations carried out at the partenering healthcare center are of Pesinet subscribers
- 93% of medical examiniations occuring following an disease detection through the monitoring system actually confirmed that the children were sick.
